Rita C.
Rita Castro (1971) is an architect whose approach to architecture is deeply rooted in collective experience and teamwork. For her, helping someone choose or modify their home is a personal journey of discovery and surprise. With a firm and clean design style, her minimalist approach reflects the belief that life itself, whether real or cinematic, adds the necessary movement to any space.
She studied architecture at Universidade Lusíada in the 90s. Rita’s first professional experience was at A.N.A. (1997-2001), where she developed a fondness for large projects that require multidisciplinary teams and intricate planning processes.
In 2001, she joined a firm that dealt with a wide range of public interventions, from sports pavilions to laboratories, castles, and monasteries, where she honed her independent and composed approach. She later joined FVA – Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos, where she collaborated from 2006 to 2011 and again from 2016 to 2020.
In 2011, Rita co-founded SOS Arquitectura, a project designed to simplify access to architectural services by removing the excesses of author brands, helping clients select exactly what they need. Rita has extensive experience across all phases of the construction process, from initial conception to project execution and completion.
Over the years, Rita has worked on several residential projects across the country and contributed to large-scale projects like the CUF Leiria and Tejo Hospitals and the Porto and Funchal Airports.
A lover of cinema, Rita enjoys architecture’s long-form projects, where the shared responsibility and experience of each professional come together. With Architect Your Home, she finds new opportunities to continue this work, with a trained eye focused on the real-life needs of each client.
Rita has pursued further knowledge, completing a master’s degree in Denmark in 2013 with a focus on sustainability, followed by years dedicated to bioconstruction. She returned to Portugal in 2017 to take on a more commercial role in Nordic furniture and lighting. She formalized equipment proposals for clients and curated combinations of pieces from represented brands. Quickly, she set up her own architecture studio, developing residential projects independently.
With an emphasis on tactile and visual sensitivity, she seeks to establish harmony in the spaces she transforms, carefully choosing materials that resonate with the client’s lifestyle and personal taste. Alongside her professional work, Rita remains passionate about crafts, having recently explored ceramics and never stopping her drawing and painting practice.
